As a firm of Business Advisers we do not prepare or Audit accounts ourselves. We do however act as consultants or subcontractors for firms of Accountants and bookkeepers and are happy to recommend them to our clients.

As a Chartered Accountant himself Nigel Wilkinson is also able to advise on Accounts for both business people and other advisers. He also has experience of providing training, such as ‘Accounts Demystified’ for SME’s and voluntary organisations.

We can relieve you and your business of a significant burden by helping you to get more out of your existing Sage system or by computerising your manual records using Sage. Nigel Wilkinson is an experienced Sage trainer who can do classroom training, for up to 12 people, or bespoke one to one training at a company’s own offices. He also provides Sage consultancy working with software developers and business support organisations, such as Business Link.

We train people to use Sage rather than offering Sage bookkeeping services ourselves. We do however work closely with experienced Sage bookkeepers who we are happy to recommend. We are members of the Sage Accountants Club and provide software, training and support for Sage Instant Accounting, Sage Line 50 and Sage Payroll.

Every business must plan ahead in order to ensure success, but it is too easy to succumb to the daily pressures of work and delay or ignore strategic planning. The result of poor planning is often rushed and misinformed decisions, over/under capacity, inefficiency and missed opportunities.

Every business owner needs to invest time in developing a long-term plan, starting with what you want to achieve from your investment and what your reasons for being in business are, and then developing a plan to help achieve these objectives.

We can help you develop these plans using our experience and expertise. The financial aspects are usually the backbone to any business plan and you need to ensure that this aspect has been adequately dealt with in your plan.

Most people who start up in business do so because they have a good business proposition, not because they are experts in the financial aspects of running a business. These factors can often be quite daunting to the entrepreneur and this is where we can help by evaluating your ideas and helping you develop them into a feasible business.

We can also help you:

  • decide on the most suitable structure for your business (i.e. sole trader, partnership or limited company)
  • prepare a business plan, cashflow projections, budgets and trading forecasts to prove the financial viability of your ideas and demonstrate this to the bank / potential investors
  • assess your finance requirements and access the most appropriate source of finance and funding, where available.
  • carry out registration procedures with Companies House, Inland Revenue or Customs and Excise set up an internal accounting system which complies with statutory requirements

Call us for a free initial consultation to find out how we can help your ideas become reality.

When running a hectic business you cannot afford to use valuable time making sure you are complying with the Companies Act. However you do need to be aware how this legislation affects your company and its directors. We can help by carrying out the company secretarial duties for you. Our services include:

  • company formations
  • acting as Company Secretary
  • preparation and filing of statutory returns

One of the most important parts of our services is the preparation of periodic management accounts. Monitoring and controlling the financial performance of your business is of paramount importance and regular management information is vital to the continued success of your business. It can also be particularly important to know which services, products or customers are the most profitable. We can either carry out this function for you or help you set-up internal systems to generate the information.

We will also take this service one step further by helping your business to identify, measure and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and making suggestions to help improve your profits and business growth.

A key service we offer to clients is in the area of taxation planning, aimed at minimising your future tax liabilities.

We do not complete tax returns ourselves but can put you in touch with other professionals who can do so on your behalf . They will deal with all business tax matters, including preparing income and /or corporation tax computations and preparing and submitting your partnership tax return or corporation tax self-assessment return.

What we do is help you to legally minimise capital gains tax, income tax and inheritance tax liabilities through proactive tax planning.

We can advise you on drafting your will in order to provide for your loved ones and minimise their future inheritance tax liabilities. To do this we work closely with a firm of professional willwriters.

Nigel Wilkinson has considerable experience of working individually with business owners to assist them to develop their own, and their organisation’s, performance. This can also include acting as a Non Executive Director attending, or indeed chairing, company board meetings and assisting you with strategy facilitation and advice on an ongoing basis.

We can provide reports for financial disputes, such as divorce, partnership & shareholder disputes and also provide an expert witness for court hearings.
